The Bohoho: Cape Town’s Coolest (and Quirkiest) Airbnb
The Bohoho is a newish Airbnb in the upmarket oceanside suburb of Camps Bay in Cape Town. And camp it is! This unapologetically maximalist, three-bedroom villa is a kaleidoscope of bright colours and quirky decor. From the Audrey Hepburn with an eyepatch gallery wall to the oversized porcelain jaguar in the storeroom, to the lips on the bottom of the swimming pool (complete with a gold tooth), every inch of this home is a spectacle! Inspired by a '60s Palm Springs summer and an attempt to create a place worthy of a Slim Aarons photograph, this is the Airbnb for people who want something different.
I could write about how much I love it, I could write about how much I admire it’s owner, Dani Gottschalk, a woman I feel I have a lot in common with (even beyond our mutual affection for brightly coloured quirky maximalist decor ...and our choice in hairstyles) or I could just show you pictures of the little details that make this home so special. So let’s go with that!
If you want a more conventional review, read this one that I wrote for Your Luxury Africa.
So here are 25 Things I love About The Bohoho:
Everything!
Here's the tour:
All the colours and textures:
This chair:
This cushion reminds me of my teens and my Clueless era:
This kitchen:
The world's best butter dish - Where can I buy one?
This pug vase makes me want to return to pottery:
The trees that flank the bed. (Also on my shopping list.)
The pool:
The fact that there are lips everywhere:
The clashing patterns - It's not too much, it's just the right amount!
Rodrigo felt very at home in the crane room:
The colour of the front door:
I don't just love the Audrey Hepburn with an eye patch gallery wall, I also love the fact that there are extra eye patches in the room for guests to use when posing with the Audrey Hepburn gallery wall.
🐆 The jaguar in the storeroom is everything!
🖼️ The art on the walls ...and sometimes floor.
🪞The fact that I'm not the only one who loves taking unconventional pictures of my reflection - Although this is definitely the first time I have taken an unconventional picture of my reflection in someone else's unconventional picture of their reflection.
Proving the above point in the bathroom.
The light fixtures that look like elongated disco balls:
(Again proving my point about the reflection thing.)
I love this outdoor area and how the stripes created by the shadows play with the stripes on the furniture.
And if you’re done staring at the interiors (could anyone ever be?) it also offers beautiful views of the sunset over the ocean:
It's also located in Camps Bay if you want to go out for dinner or a stroll on the beach.
And all this explains why I had such a tough time checking out:
If you're looking for a memorable place to stay in Camps Bay with a swimming pool and ocean views, find more info or book here.
You can also see more pictures on their Instagram account.
